Research
I am interested in the effects of injury and neurological disease on the brain and spinal cord and the consequent need for rehabilitation. There are many different types of dysfunctions that can result from damage to these two vital systems and further understanding of these dysfunctions can help researchers to achieve more effective and personalized rehabilitation techniques. My current project investigates visual perception and eye movements in wheelchair users in general and patients with spinal cord injury in particular. Preliminary evidence from our lab shows opposite eye-movement asymmetries in these patients as compared to healthy controls, and the goal of my study is to explore whether this is due to the change in situation resulting from the SCI (i.e., wheelchair use).
